The Malta Food Agency has spent years building stronger links between consumers and local food through education, seasonal campaigns, and direct support for producers. This work has increased awareness of Maltese and Gozitan products and strengthened demand for food that values freshness, origin, and quality.
As demand grew, the Agency focused on making local products more accessible by improving distribution, modernising markets, and supporting producers through digital platforms. The Food Coop, established in collaboration with Koperattivi Malta, is the next step in this approach.
The Food Coop is a dedicated retail space for local and artisanal products, designed to bring producers and consumers closer together. It provides producers with greater visibility and new selling opportunities, while offering consumers a reliable point of access to high-quality, traceable Maltese and Gozitan food.
For the Malta Food Agency, it represents a practical model for strengthening the local food sector and supporting community-based retail.
