Purpose of the Regulations
The 2025 regulations replace S.L. 117.43, aiming to:
- Promote fair trade practices and transparency.
- Improve product traceability and accountability.
Target Audience
- Farmers
- Hawkers
- Sales Agents
These stakeholders must comply with new standards governing the sale and marketing of agricultural produce mainly fresh fruits and vegetables within designated marketing centres like Pitkalija.
Key Compliance Requirements
- Valid Permits/Tickets: Required to access and operate in the marketing centres.
- Product Origin: Only locally grown, MFA-approved produce is allowed.
- Traceability: All produce must carry official MFA-issued labels.
- Official Crates: Only containers officially recognized by the MFA are to be used, and these crates are to be used exclusively for the purpose of local fruit and vegetables.
- Sales Records: Complete transaction records must be maintained; proxy (prestanome) transactions are banned.
- Disposal Reporting: Unsold/unfit produce must be documented and reported for MFA-authorized disposal.
