The Malta Food Agency (MFA) and Circular Economy Malta (CE Malta) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance cooperation in key areas including sustainability, circularity, and resource efficiency within Malta’s agri-food system.
This agreement marks a significant step forward in Malta’s ongoing transition towards a more resilient, environmentally responsible, and future-proof food ecosystem.
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework through which both organisations will work together on initiatives that integrate circular economy principles into agriculture and food production. These include promoting resource-efficient practices, reducing waste across the supply chain, supporting innovation through pilot projects, enhancing data sharing and research, and strengthening skills through capacity-building programmes.
Joint awareness campaigns, including the use and promotion of local produce according to seasonality, training initiatives, and outreach activities will also be developed to engage farmers, producers, consumers, and other food system stakeholders, ensuring that circularity becomes a core element of Malta’s food culture.
Speaking during the signing, Malta Food Agency CEO Brian Vella emphasised the importance of this collaboration:
